24 Hour Self Storage, which operates nine facilities in Georgia and Tennessee, is hosting a local Girl Scout troop and its cookie drive on Saturday at one of its Cleveland, Tenn., locations. Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians (GSCSA) will operate a drive-through booth at 2620 Guthrie St. N.W. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Girl Scouts typically sell cookies between January and April, but the fundraiser was disrupted this year by the coronavirus pandemic. GSCSA sold nearly 27,000 boxes through the organization’s national and local online stores, but still had 120,000 boxes in mid-March when Tennessee was one of many states to issue stay-in-place orders.
“This has never happened. These cookies are never here in June. We have lots of cookies that we need to sell,” said chapter CEO Lynne Fugate.
The booth will be manned by adult volunteers wearing masks, and physical distancing will be observed.
“This is a big change in plans for us and a one-time opportunity for the community to purchase cookies at a convenient drive-up booth,” Fugate said, adding that some are purchasing boxes to donate to first responders and healthcare workers. “It’s a guilt-free purchase. You’re helping a Girl Scout and you’re helping the people who’ve been helping us this whole pandemic.”
24 Hour Self Storage operates six facilities in Cleveland, and one each in Dalton and Dawnville, Ga., and Athens, Tenn. It offers traditional and vehicle storage, and warehouse space.
