A 70-year-old man was found dead on Monday inside a unit at Evans Self Storage in Evans, Colo. Employees discovered the body of David Carroll while conducting a routine security check. Police believe Carroll was a transient and said it appears he died of natural causes, according to the source.
“Further medical evaluation and testing will be completed by the Weld County Coroner’s Office,” Chad Harding, police commander, said in a press release. Upon initial inspection, the body did not display any obvious signs of trauma, Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Ward told the source.
Storage staff found Carroll inside the unit when they discovered it was unlocked with the door closed, according to investigators. Police responding to the property at 1405 32nd St. found a backpack at the scene with clothing, personal documents and prescription medicine bottles inside, the source reported.
Multiple news reports stated the facility’s name as Stuff It Storage, but the company’s website references only Evans Self Storage.
The case remains under investigation.
