Proguard Self Storage in Houston is celebrating Texas Wine Month in October by offering customers three months of rent-free storage when they pre-pay for three months at its specialty wine-storage facility in the city’s Museum District, an area consisting of 20 museums, galleries, cultural centers and community organizations. Proguard offers climate-controlled wine-storage units that hold 21 to 519 cases of wine. The promotion runs through the end of this month, according to a company press release.
The company’s wine-storage offering was launched in July. Its wine units feature oak-finished doors as well as temperature and humidity control. To protect wine quality, each unit is kept between 54 and 57 degrees Fahrenheit and 58 to 65 percent relative humidity, company officials said. The units feature Icynene closed-cell insulation to block air and moisture. The temperature is tested every 30 minutes, and the area features a natural-gas generator in case of power outages. In addition, wine bottles are stored in the dark to prevent any unwanted quality changes and ensure the aging process happens as intended.
Units are equipped with individual alarms, card readers and computerized coded keypads for enhanced security.
The facility at 5503 Almeda Road opened last year and offers moving carts and supplies for customer convenience. Onsite managers can also accept wine deliveries on behalf of tenants, according to the release.
Founded in 1991, Proguard operates six self-storage facilities in the Houston area.
