A Big Storage LLC, a self-storage facility in Glenrock, Wyo., recently completed construction and opened for business with 65 storage units and room to grow. Owner Rod Christiansen said early business has been good for the companys U-Haul moving-truck rentals, and he anticipates adding more storage space sometime next year.
Now were just doing some aesthetics of the lot itself. Were putting in a new gate on the front there, just kind of trying to clean it up a bit, Christiansen said. We did a variety of [unit] sizes to see what was of interest. Then we will expand to whatever is needed. We would like to continue with the larger storage units.
The largest units available are 14 by 50 feet, with enough ceiling height to accommodate many of todays taller RV designs, he said. However, since those unit spaces are much longer than is needed for vehicles, Christiansen plans on renting them as tenant-shared spaces. We have actually been renting some of those units out to things with that height, but not the length, he said. So customers just pay in proportion to what theyre using, with the understanding that they share the rest with somebody else who needs it.
Anticipating a busy winter rental season, Christiansen said the facilitys first expansion will depend on what unit sizes prove most popular. Next year, if theres more need for storage, Ill build at least another building of whatever size is needed, he said. Were also in the process of putting in about eight units for working people, maybe in two or three years.
Christiansen previously has owned industrial shops and pool-and-spa businesses, and most recently owned resorts in Honduras, according to the source. He owns a large piece of property near the river north of town where he would like to eventually build a recreational-camping facility.
