An alleged burglar was arrested on Monday at A-1 Self Storage in Santa Fe, N.M., after an hours-long standoff with police. Officers responded to 1224 Rodeo Road about 6 p.m. after a caller claimed there was a man with a large knife inside his apartment, according to the source. It’s unclear from the source if the residence was on the storage property.
Police arrived to find Lucias Baca, 25, on the roof of the storage facility. Baca claimed he was armed with a .357 Magnum and wanted to commit “suicide by cop.” After several hours of refusing to come down, he surrendered. No gun was recovered from the scene, the source reported.
Baca, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center for evaluation. He was later arrested on charges of aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property, resisting an officer and tampering with evidence.
A-1 Self Storage operates 17 facilities in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe and Tijeras, N.M.
