Article-Marcus & Millichap Self-Storage Groups Merge

Jacob (Jake) Becher, director of the National Self Storage Group for commercial property-investment firm Marcus & Millichap (M&M), and associate broker Tasso Douglas, have merged with the company’s Hatcher Group, which also specializes in self-storage. Becher and Douglas work in the company’s Palo Alto, Calif., office, while the Hatcher Group is based in Columbus, Ohio. The partnership will allow the groups to further leverage their track record, experience and inventory to better serve clients nationwide, according to a press release.

As a first vice president of investments, Becher represents buyer and sellers of commercial investments throughout the country, with a concentration in the western states. For the past several years, he’s ranked as the company’s No. 1 agent in California and is a recipient of the firm’s “National Achievement Award.” During his time at M&M, he’s facilitated more than $350 million in self-storage transactions.

“I am elated to be partnering with what I believe to be the most respected team in the self-storage industry and look forward to continued growth,” Becher said.

Douglas has been an associate broker with M&M for a year. Prior to joining the company, he was a broker with Keller Williams Realty Inc., according to his LinkedIn profile.

“I am pleased to partner with Jake and his team,” said Brett Hatcher, partner of The Hatcher Group. “Jake’s experience and thought processes are well aligned with our vision and growth plan for The Hatcher Group. With Jake at the helm on the West Coast, we’ll be armed with a robust team, giving us the ability and edge to better serve our clients.”

The Hatcher Group has closed more than $1 billion in self-storage transactions. Its services include underwriting, customized marketing and financial analytics.

Founded in 1971, M&M has more than 1,800 investment professionals in offices throughout Canada and the United States.
